Gallery Grand Opening

 Hello all.

Painting Is Dead Gallery is nearly ready for its grand opening. We have spent most every warm winter and spring day cleaning the derelict building out, doing our best to kept as much of the original patina and character in tact. My father has spent many days up at the farm bending conduit and running all the wiring for the granary/gallery. My cousin Jim has graciously driven up from Jeffersonville Indiana to install a heat pump for climate control. A group of dudes helped us move in the 1930's back bar I got at an auction years ago. So we are going to have an opening on August 23 and 24th. We will have new and old works up for viewing. Stuff from our own personal collections and the newest things we are working on. Work for sale and work not for sale. Friends are making a keg of beer, and the garden will be in full force(despite all the stupid rain) ready to feed us. All are welcome to attend.

Friday Aug 23 2PM until dark

Saturday Aug 24 11AM until dark

If interested please contact me: heavyweather1977@gmail.com and I will give you the address.

Also...   I know I have said I am not doing this full time anymore before, and I know people are rolling their eyes when they read this but we will NOT be doing a full schedule next year. Last year life was crazy and I didn't have the mental energy to reinvent myself, so I wanted one more year full time. All winter I have very focused and determined. This spring and summer has been going wonderfully. Katie and I are probably on pace to have our best year to date. It has been an absolute blast, mostly, and we are both very very thankful. But I just am tired of scrambling, and want to do other things. I will still keep painting, just not showing as much and the gallery should help us get off the road a little bit. So this is my remaining schedule unless I run out of work, which is a possibility.

Poster Boy

I am proud to announce that I am the featured artist for the Des Moines Arts Festival. Earlier this spring I made a special trip down to the Dubuque area and made drawings and studies for a series of paintings of Iowa with the intent of the Des Moines Art Festival picking one for the poster. Having painted in Northeast Iowa for years now, it was a natural process. The painting I submitted from Jackson County I thought would make the best image and felt the most like me is the one they chose. This is a first for me, and Des Moines treated Katie and I wonderfully the night of the unveiling. Great ceremony, impressive organization, and even Hamm's on tap. Despite being Lutheran, I am excited. Before the unveiling I wore white gloves and signed 200 prints.

So....  If anybody wants a print,  it is 23x30" and I can get you one for $45 plus shipping. I do NOT do prints of my work. The painting was scanned in and the print is on nice stock, it really is top notch. Whoever made this print did a great job and this image here does not represent how good it actually looks in person. The print is only sold at the Des Moines Festival of Arts June 28-30. You can only get it in person or by contacting me ahead of time. There are less than 200 available, signed and numbered by yours truly. If anybody has any interest, please contact me so I can take care of that for you.

PS- Des Moines bought the painting so it is not for sale.

Show Season

Working hard and focused. Not even drinking! With everything that has happened to me in the last year and a half, just painting and walking the straight and narrow has been good for me. I am planning on this being my last year of a full summer tour, and even designed a tshirt. The granary has been transformed into a gallery space, lots of sweat equity and electrical help from my Dad. Hopefully in August we will have an opening, have a few final details to finish up. The plan is after the gallery officially opens to just spend less time on the the road. Mainly I feel like I owe it to myself and Katie to knock this off. In the future I plan on doing select shows here and there, who knows. I just want to do less work and better work-just like every other artist I know does. But right now I have lots of work and am getting ready for the last big push. Here is my show schedule so far:

May 3-5 Brookside Art Annual, Kansas City, MO

June 8-9 Old Town Art Fair, Chicago, IL

June 14-16 Lakefront Festival Of The Arts, Milwaukee WI

June 28-30 Des Moines Art Festival, Des Moines, IA

July 18-20 Ann Arbor Art Fair- the Original, Ann Arbor, MI

Aug 10th Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair, Charlevoix, MI

Oct 4-6 St. James Art Festival, Louisville, KY

I have applied for a couple more shows and will add to the schedule need be. This time of year I do miss seeing fair goers, clients, and my friends. We look forward to seeing everyone again!
